FAMOUS tourist attraction the Ancient Ram Inn has been severely damaged after recent floods.

The former B&B, which is located in Wotton-Under-Edge, has struggled to deal with the recent deluge.

Owner of the Ram, Caroline Humphries, says the drains aren’t adequate enough to deal with the rain that has hit the Grade II star listed building and water has also been coming through the wall.

The fire service were called to empty the flood water but Caroline is worried the building won’t be able to survive another similar incident as it’s been flooded several times since 2015. “The water is definitely coming through the mayflower barn wall,” said Caroline.

“I suspect poor drainage and the camber of the road could be the cause of repeated floods inside the building.

“I’m surprised the internal wall to the mayflower barn is still standing. It has an 11th century roof, which was used as safe storage up until 2015.

“The council need to take urgent action because I don’t believe it’s my responsibility to stop the water coming through my wall, a few more drains in their road would help.”

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said: “We’re sorry that the owner feels frustrated by this situation. On November 14 there was very heavy and prolonged rain. We attended the property to ensure that the highway drains were clear and kept the owner informed; our fire and rescue service also provided assistance. Unfortunately the property steps down from the road and when the highway drains are so overwhelmed it doesn’t matter how clear they are they cannot get rid of the water fast enough. We are taking these concerns very seriously and will continue to work with the owner.”
