Thornbury Town 4
Cheltenham Saracens 1
THORNBURY remain at the top of the tree after a comfortable victory over high-flying Cheltenham Saracens, writes Mark Franklin.
Earlier, Kurtis Parkin and Luke Franklin had recovered from injury and Jacob Farthing took the No.9 shirt - replacing Craig Lancastle who was getting married in Mexico.
The home side started well and took the lead on 12 minutes. A chipped through-ball by Franklin found Harry Brock who rounded the keeper and slotted home from a narrow angle.
Franklin hit the outside of the post but three minutes later re-calibrated his sights and found the top corner on 28 minutes to make it 2-0. However, the two-goal margin was reduced when John Evans fired in from the edge of the box.
Thornbury regained momentum just before the break - Brandon Benjamin fizzing in from outside the box from a Wormwell assist.
Nathan Sage made it game over as he nodded in for 4-1.
Dan Parry replaced the carded Joe Guest with 10 minutes to go.
Cirencester visit on Saturday followed by a local derby in the GFA Challenge Trophy at home to Patchway Town on Tuesday, December 12, 7.30pm.
