An annual golf charity day has raised more than £7,000 for charity.

Oaksey Park Golf Club annual captain’s charity day raised £7,750 for new charity Brainstorm.

On a sunny Autumn day, 16 teams met up for a bacon roll, tea and coffee before they went around the course for a shotgun start.

The winning team was Speedys Wonderballs and the runners up were Oaksey Misfits. Medals were also awarded for ‘Nearest the Pin’ and ‘Straightest Drive’.

Following the golf challenge, came a charity auction with 30 lots, many kindly donated by local businesses, which raised nearly £2,500. This was very generously matched £1 for £1 by the Cooper family, owners of Oaksey Park Golf Club in memory of Glynis Cooper.

Glynis passed away earlier this year and is greatly missed by the members of the golf club.

The charity is close to the club’s heart. Only set up last year, its focus is in applying frontline research on Glioblastoma Brain tumours immediately into medical practise in order to improve the outcomes for patients.

Money raised will help pay for a new hand-held advanced imaging scanner at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

The scanner will allow surgeons to see live images as surgery progresses, enabling any abnormalities or complications to be effectively managed immediately, greatly improving the outcome for patients. Once in use the scanner should benefit up to 250 Glioblastoma patients a year, coming from a wide area including Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Swindon, Gloucester, Reading, Northampton and Wrexham Park.

Founding member of Brainstorm and consultant neurosurgeon, Mr Puneet Plaha said: “We are extremely grateful for the amazing funds raised by Oaksey Park Golf Club. Although we are still a new and small charity this money will immediately be put to very good use, helping hundreds of patients get access to the latest research developments in their treatment today.”
