Twelve people have been arrested for drink and drug driving related offences in just five weeks.

All the arrests came in the Malmesbury and Wootton Bassett area between October 19 and November 20.

Of 12 people arrested, one was charged with drink driving after his vehicle hit a tree and flipped into a ditch whilst another was charged with drink driving a car was seen passing through a red light in Malmesbury.

Sgt Katharine Smith of the Neighbourhood team in Royal Wootton Bassett said: “It is really disappointing that despite the amount of campaigns run nationally and locally regarding drink driving and the dangers involved, people are continuing to get behind the wheel of a car intoxicated.

"It is never worth the risk – you are putting yourself and others in serious danger.

“Please, with the festive period coming up and no doubt lots of Christmas parties, plan your journey home in advance.

"Have a designated driver in your group, take extra cash for a taxi, arrange a lift with a friend or relative who is having a night in – anything that means you are not drinking and driving.”
