Stroud Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion are jointly hosting an event to allow Stroud’s parliamentary candidates to put forward their ideas on how to respond to the climate and ecological emergency.

The event will be held at the Sub Rooms on Tuesday November 19 from 7-9pm and entry will be free; parent-friendly and children welcome.

David Drew MP will attend along with Desi Latimer for the Brexit Party, Siobhan Baillie for the Conservatives and Molly Scott Cato for the Greens.

Last year the UN warned that we had until just 2030 to reduce carbon emissions by 45% if we were to avoid catastrophic temperature increases, and said that would require ‘rapid, far reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society,’

At the same time, the UN has also warned that climate change and intensive agriculture are contributing to the extinction of unprecedented number of species around the globe.

The UK is already the most nature-depleted country in Europe.
Neither XR nor Greenpeace endorse any politician or political party: both are demanding that everyone across the political spectrum brings the emergency to the forefront of their campaigning and their policy.

David Lambert for XR and Will Templeman for Stroud Greenpeace said: "This election must be about the climate and ecological emergency and we need to hear from these candidates, what is your plan?

"The next five years are crucial to the future of life on earth and we need a government which understands the need for that transformational change.

"The climate is political – this emergency is going to threaten jobs, transport, food supplies, public services, savings and pensions. Brexit is not life-threatening; the climate and ecological emergency is."
