The deadline for voter registration for the upcoming general election on December 12 is fast approaching so don’t miss the opportunity to have your say.

Poll cards will be posted out on Monday, November 11, to residents who are registered to vote.

Residents are urged to look out for their poll card in the mail, and to get in touch with the elections team if any of their details have changed.

The deadline for new applications to vote by post is 5pm on Tuesday, November 26, which is also the deadline to make any changes to existing postal or proxy vote arrangements that they have in place.

For new applications to vote by proxy, the deadline is 5pm on December 4.

Sarah Dalby, electoral services manager for Cotswold District Council, explains: “It’s always important to check the details on your poll card and make sure that they are correct.

"It is very easy to update the information if you need to make any changes - you can do this online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call our team on 01285 623002.

“I would also remind those who are not yet registered to vote that they have until midnight on Tuesday, November 26, to sign up at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - or call 01285 623002 - to ensure that they can vote in the election on December 12.

“People sometimes think they can register for a postal or proxy vote just before an election, but we need sufficient time to process new requests, and that is why specific deadlines are set – and which cannot be extended.

“Electors may also wish to consider whether, given the uncertainty of the weather at what is an unusual election time, they apply for a postal vote for this election.”
