BBC Countryfile’s Ellie Harrison will be switching on the Christmas lights in Cirencester this year.

The annual Cirencester Advent Festival, will take place on Saturday, November 30, from 11am to 7pm culminating with the traditional celebrity light switch on ceremony from 6.30pm and then a Cotswold Fireworks display at 7pm.

Traditionally, the Advent Festival heralds the start of the festive season with the town’s Christmas Markets being held between December 1 and December 8 this year.

Ellie is president of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, who have been working in partnership with Cirencester Town Council on local green space projects.

Cirencester Town Council community services manager, Becky Coles said: “Having Ellie Harrison to switch on the lights helps celebrate the hard work that Cirencester Town Council, and its band of willing volunteers, have done to make our award winning parks and green spaces so fantastic.

"We would like to thank the local businesses who have sponsored the event this year, enabling our small advent team to go that extra mile to bring more diversity and excitement to this annual event. "The Advent Market has expanded into Brewery Court and Father Christmas will be telling his festive yarns in our free children’s craft area in Bishops Walk.

"Without giving too much away, we also have a number of extra surprises that we hope the people of Cirencester will enjoy.

"We would like to extend a special thanks to SML Law, who is this years’ headline sponsor.

"Our media sponsor, The Barn Theatre, are organising and running the big screen in conjunction with their Christmas Carol production.

"Our thanks also to GM Surveyors for allowing us to utilise space in Bishops Walk for Christmas crafts and also Cotswold District Council for helping us extend the market into Brewery Court. "There are still sponsorship opportunities available so please call us if you are interested.”
