THERE have been dances at the Corn Hall from the time is was first opened in 1862 - the first dance being the V. W. H. Hunt Ball, on January 21, 1863.

The entry cost back then was ten shillings and six pence and equivalent to two days pay for an experienced labourer.

Many bands and small orchestras have played at the Corn Hall - but for many, the Stax club of the 1960’s with live Soul music bands remains a fond memory for many Cirencester people.

It was seven shillings and sixpence to get in back then - and beer was Half a Crown a pint (12.5 pence)
