A new 120-home estate could be built in a town in Stroud as a house builder announces plans.

Developer Redrow Homes wants to build the development on greenfields at the northern edge of Berkeley.

The proposals would see 120 “high quality” homes, including affordable housing and public open space, be built on land west of Station Road.

Redrow Homes is asking members of the local community to provide feedback for the scheme before it submits plans to Stroud District Council’s planning team.

A public exhibition will be held on Wednesday at Berkeley Town Hall between 2pm and 7pm.

Emma Powell, planning director at Redrow Homes said: “We are undertaking pre-application consultation on these proposals to gather feedback from the local community as we refine our scheme. We have been working hard to ensure that we fully understand and therefore, work to minimise, any issues related to transport, heritage, design and drainage.

“With all new proposed developments, our approach is to seek to work with local residents and stakeholders to develop our plans, so that we fully understand local perspectives.

“We are seeking feedback on all aspects of these proposals, including: the layout of the development; where the open spaces should be; how the public realm is designed; pedestrian access; landscaping and tree planting; and, how this investment could best contribute to local needs, including roads, schooling and other public services.

“The project team is looking forward to discussing the site and initial proposals on October 23.”

The planned development for Berkely comes as pressure rises on housing across Stroud.

Stroud District Council said last year it was forced to find space for an extra 1,000 new homes due to new Government guidance.

The authority is currently undertaking a review of its local plan, a blueprint which sets house where houses should go in the district, and is seeking to agree appropriate locations for building new homes.

Berkeley has been identified as an area in which sustainable future growth could take place to help meet this need.
