STUDENTS from a school in Colchester have donated hauls of food and produce to a vital charity following a special service at a church in Stanway.
Generous young pupils from St Mary’s Lower School visited St Albright’s Church last Thursday with large amounts of food in celebration of their Harvest Festival.
The collection of dried and tined goods, which was donated by students and family members, was presented to Jo Clarke from St Helena Hospice.
The hand-over took place during a high-spirited service led by Year 6 pupils, in which children of all ages thanked the world for all of the natural wonders it produces.
They spoke about the importance of crops and how the benefits of sowing seeds - both literally and metaphorically - can improve our mental health.
Ms Clarke said: “It was so lovely to have joined St Mary’s children for their Harvest Festival.
“The items that the children and their families have donated will go a long way to helping the Hospice provide delicious home cooked meals for our patients.”
