Staff and pupils at Down Ampney Church of England Primary School invited members of the local community to join them for lunch and a talk about how times have changed over a number of years.

As part of the School’s new Christian vision, everyone achieving, everyone believing, everyone caring, the children wanted to share a lunchtime with people who live locally but that they don’t normally get to meet.

The afternoon started with a tour of the school, and lots of discussion about school topics now, which some of the visitors were not allowed to do when they were at school.

The group then all sat down for a wonderful roast dinner together, which was followed by an informative talk from some of the visitors.

Pupils were amazed to hear of growing up without any running water or indoor toilets, and a fascinating insight in to the differences of Down Ampney School, with children staying until their early teens then going to work at one of the local farms in the village.

The afternoon was enjoyed by all of the local residents, with one saying, “I would like to thank the children who gave us such an interesting tour.

"They were charming, knowledgeable and clearly very proud of their school and its achievements.”

Headteacher, Adam Clark, highlighted the importance of the children living their vision, and this was one way they could show the benefits of everyone caring to all.
