Farmers' market news with Gerb Gerbrands.

I love this time of year; so much fresh produce and all so perfect! I’m loving the carrots at Newark Farm, and their potatoes! Massive great onions loads of greens like broccoli and chard and cabbage, lettuces and tomatoes and peppers and cucumbers with knobbles on.

Sweetcorn, green beans, celery, radishes; it’s all available plus lots more.

Plus we are in the height of our apple and pear season.

Apples are available at Styan’s and Coleshill Organics and, of course, at Day’s Cottage, where the branches of the now, 30 year old, heritage orchard trees are bending to the point of snapping with their bounteous harvest of true and ancient Gloucestershire varieties; Tom Put, Sunset, Taynton Codlin, Stantway Kernel, Phelp’s Favourite, Peasgood Nonsuch and many more! They also have the unpasteurised apple juice available; take your own litre bottle to get a fill!

Back this week are The Garlic Farm and, after a two month absence, the original and greatest British Charcuterie, Trealy Farm. Quite a few of you have missed them in their absence so I’m glad to say they are now back regularly on the 2nd Saturday of the month.

Finally, it is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of a long term and much loved stallholder. Davina Wynne-Jones of Herbs for Healing passed last week and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
