Police in the Cotswolds have revealed that they have successfully obtained a closure order for an address in Cirencester, after the building was used for drug misuse.

A hearing was held at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Thursday 3 October.

The order was sought due to suspected drugs misuse at the address and, in particular concerns that various members of the public, including children, were going to the address to use drugs.

The application, which came from the Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing Team, was granted after the Magistrates Judge hearing the case felt that the evidence collected by local officers justified the closure orders.

The order at a property on Arnolds Way will be in effect until 2 January 2020 and prevents anyone other than the tenant and their relatives from entering the address.

Inspector Simon Ellson from the Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing Team are determined to ensure residents in the district can live free from the effects of drug use and associated issues such as ASB in their local communities.

"Closure orders are an important tool for us to stop this behaviour and allow us to restrict who can attend the locations.

"I would like to thank the officers and partners involved in their hard work to obtain the orders. If members of the public believe drugs are being used in their communities please report it to us."

The closure power is a fast, flexible power that can be used to protect victims and communities by quickly closing premises that are causing nuisance or disorder.

The orders are designed to tackle serious and persistent forms of antisocial behaviour and close a property completely or partially whilst preventing access by any persons.
