Summary

LIVE: Worcester City 1 Long Eaton United 3

Our live feed has now finished.

  • LIVE: City 1 (Lockett 7) Long Eaton 3 (Towle 66, 74p, 82p)
  • CITY paid the price for being toothless in a strong first half with the league’s top scorer Niall Towle showing the way to goal in the second.
  • A free-kick and two penalties took Long Eaton United's hitman to 17 for season in a 3-1 victory at the Victoria Ground.
  • On the balance of play City deserved more from good approach play but rarely looking like scoring, while a Long Eaton side that offered little always looked likely to punish any mistakes when their moments came.
  • Liam Lockett’s driving run and finish inside the near post from the edge of the box seven minutes in was the least City deserved at the interval but a bounty of promise did not develop into proper chances.
  • Jordan Harrison should have made it two just past the half hour but leant back and lifted over from six yards following a kind bounce from Luke English’s long throw.
  • United, the division’s top scorers, showed next to nothing other than some late first-half pressure but simply kept plugging away with the long throws of Kieran Walker helping to turn the screw.
  • Rhys Dolan’s free-kick from the wing brushed the top of the bar via keeper Dan Jezeph’s glove but the leveller was not far away and it came courtesy of a City mistake.
  • Jamie Smith needlessly lashed at a clearance when in bags of space to take a touch with Dolan latching on to the loose ball before having his run unfairly halted by Chris Withington.
  • Towle stepped up and coolly stroked the free-kick across the face of goal inside the far post with an effort that seemed to be at a good height for keeper Dan Jezeph.
  • City kept going but looked susceptible to the counter attack and that proved their downfall.
  • David Kolodynski got inside the left of the box and tangled with Craig Jones with referee Harry Warner pointing to the spot.
  • Towle lifted a high penalty down the middle to give his side the lead and produced the same spot-kick eight minutes later when English was judged to have brought down substitute Kameron Campbell while stretching to toe away the ball.
