A woman was left with facial injuries after what the police believe was a sexually-motivated assault in Foss Cross.

The victim was assaulted and grabbed by an unknown man while walking in a road off the A429 Stow Road at around 9.40pm on Sunday, September 8.

She was approached from behind, hit in the forehead with a hard object and grabbed by the throat.

The woman fought back and hit the back of her head into the face of the man which caused him to let go.

The incident happened on an unnamed road opposite Foss Cross Lane.

As no effort was made to steal the victim's bag, police believe the intention of this assault was of a sexual nature.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify a suspect and officers are appealing for anyone with information to call the police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
