Farmers' market news with Gerb Gerbrands.

Well we had an extraordinary day in Stroud last Saturday, the folk festival filled the town with morris dancers and fabulous music and the sun shone brightly to create a fitting last day of summer, as on Sunday the weather changed, the leaves began to fall and the temperatures dropped to match the fading morning and evening light.

At the market too, it was the end of summer as it was the last time at the market for Besley’s strawberries and the Lavender Garden for another year and the plums are dwindling too to make way for apples and pears, squash and roots, and I’m sure we will see the stallholders with coats and hats instead of t-shirts from here on in.

What a summer we have had.

Tourists have flocked to the town from all over the globe, aided no doubt by our reputation as one of the most flamboyant and colourful towns in the country, with our amazing markets at the Cornhill and the Shambles, our unique range of local independent shops and our new reputation as the HQ of the climate rebellion - hooray for Stroud!

The farmers’ market has been at the forefront of the climate/economic revolution for twenty years, if you truly believe in change, then your food shopping should start here, buying direct from local food businesses at prices that means we have sustainable mixed farming instead of factory farming and where every penny you spend gets recycled back into the local economy.

See you on Saturday.
