An award-winning amateur dramatics group are preparing for their next production, bringing radio serial Dick Barton Special Agent to the stage.

Popular group, Sodbury Players, will be performing the popular production at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall next week.

Shows start at 7.30pm and will run from Wednesday 25 until Saturday 28.

Dick Barton Special Agent is a comedy spoof based upon the BBC radio serial which ran between 1946 and 1951.

The character has also had his own television series in 1979.

This play tells the story of how Britain’s entire tea supply is threatened to be poisoned. Barton soon finds himself wrapped up in an adventure soaked with intrigue and mystery, as he faces off against arch-enemies Marta Heartburn and Baron Scarheart. It also features some fun song and dance numbers including Happy Feet and Everything stops for tea.

Fresh from several nominations for the Rose Bowl Awards 2019, the group continue to entertain audiences in Chipping Sodbury as they have for over 70 years and are looking forward to their next production.

A spokesperson revealed the group were excited for the show.

“The team have been working hard all over the summer period,” they said.

“This show has been really fun for the cast and crew so we are looking forward to sharing the hilarity with our audiences later this month.”

Audiences are advised that the show includes innuendo and mild drug references.
