Musicians are gathering to pay tribute to a musical legend in the Cotswolds.

A Brewery Blues musical tribute has been organised to take place in Cirencester later this month to pay tribute to local musician and promoter, John Drummond.

John's influence on the music scene in Cirencester was immense.

He himself was originally a lead singer, having clocked up many gigs with the ever-popular 'Blues Grinders'.

As a respected promoter and champion of local music, John brought about and ran the very successful 'Brewery Blues'.

Though he especially loved the blues John worked with all genres and all musicians at every level.

He played a great role in encouraging and enabling so many young people to follow their heart and soul into music.

Sadly, John passed away earlier this year aged 66.

To celebrate the life and amazing musical connection that John had with the town of Cirencester, a Brewery Blues musical tribute has been organised to take place at The Bingham Hall, on Sunday, September 29, from noon till 7.30pm.

A family event, there will be a pig roast and licensed bar.

Entry on the door is by donation, with a suggestion donation of £5.

Children under 16 free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

All money raised to go to John Drummond’s preferred charity Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Berny Poulton of local duo Ethemia who is one of the organisers said: ‘The passion and sheer willingness of musicians and of those who knew John to come forward and help was astounding.

"As Ethemia we worked with John for nearly two years.

"He believed in our music and championed us.

"His knowledge and experience was profound and still continues to guide and drive us on.’

Fourteen acts all connected with John are coming together to perform at the musical extravaganza.

Many have gone on to become quite renown such as blues singer Elles Bailey and blues band Solid Gone who happened to be touring in Europe when asked to perform and agreed immediately.

Berny Poulton said: "The best news, was that some members of John’s old band The Blues Grinders were reforming especially to perform at the event.

"We shall also be airing an old recording of John singing with The Blues Grinders."

John’s wife Julie said: "It is all very special indeed and my family are quite overwhelmed and honoured by such an event. John would be too."
