A HOMELESS 35-year-old man looking for shelter for his dog lost his temper in the early hours of the morning in Moreton-in-Marsh and lashed out at a police car, a court heard yesterday.

Shane Hayward pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates court to causing criminal damage to the vehicle on August 25th.

Prosecuting lawyer Sonia Alford said; “It was 1.20am and police were called after reports that a very drunk man was in the High Street with a large stone in his hands.

“He said that he was looking for shelter for his dog and he was very aggressive.”

Hayward started to kick the police car door and began to spit and was very violent, the court heard.

Probation officer Jo Hall told the court: “He is on a community order for threatening words and behaviour and he has shown positive engagement but he needs stable accommodation.”

Hayward said: “I have lost my job and lost my girlfriend and I was lashing out but I know that it was wrong."

Magistrates fined him £40 and ordered him to pay £50 compensation.
