A Malmesbury play area has been given a revamp.

Newnton Grove Play Area will now benefit from a fit for purpose multi-play installation and surfacing, which will provide a safe and appropriately suitable area for children to enjoy.

The new equipment was funded by Malmesbury Town Council, with support from Wiltshire Council Area Board.

A Malmesbury Town Council spokesman said: "We are pleased to provide this excellent outcome for the local residents and their children, and see this as a marker of our continued commitment to improving the parks and services to the Malmesbury community as a whole.

"Any residents who would like to get involved and would be prepared to commit a small amount of time supporting the positive development of any of the towns parks should contact town clerk Richard Spencer- Williams at Richard.williams@malmesbury.gov.uk."

Wiltshire Councillor for Malmesbury Gavin Grant was pleased to see the upgraded play area.

He said: "I knew our town council would look after it properly. That's why I campaigned successfully to get it transferred across from Wiltshire Council.

"‎I'm delighted that having consulted local parents and thanks to my town council colleagues, we now have new play equipment, safety flooring and a picnic table here.

"It's also great that this work has been done in time for the Summer holiday and that Wiltshire Council helped pay towards it.

"My next target is to get the whole of the open space at Filands transferred from Wiltshire Council.

"We already have installed the new path and the town council has the play parks but there's a lot more to do.

"New residents and families are moving into the Filand View development.

"People up there deserve better than they have got right now.‎

"The sooner we get local control of the whole area and can get on to create Malmesbury's next park working with local residents, the better."
