Two well known authors will judge a competition which will kick off a jam packed book week.

Octavia's Bookshop in Cirencester will be running a series of events between Monday, July 29 to Saturday, August 3.

This year, Octavia’s Bookshop is supporting Authors4Oceans, a collaboration of authors and illustrators who are passionate about saving our seas through the power of the arts.

Best-selling authors and founders Gill Lewis and Lauren St John will be giving a talk about the incredible work that Authors4Oceans are doing.

They will also be judging the Make a Sea Creature competition for 7-12 year-olds.

Entrants are asked to create a sea creature/monster out of plastic or waste materials.

The event will run from 11.30-2pm.

Elsewhere, there will be three events taking place on Tuesday, July 30.

Laura James, author of Fabio The World’s Greatest Flamingo Detective, will be demonstrating how to create a character and simple story whilst also signing books.

This event will begin at 11.30 and is aimed at 5-8 year-olds.

At 2.30, make waves with Sue Mongredien at the great pirate race and treasure map event.

Pirate costumes are encouraged and free signed copy is up for grabs.

It is aimed at 5-8 year-olds.

There is also an event for the grown ups at 7.30.

Feel-good fiction gem Lucy Diamond (author of the classic The Beach Café) will be holding a special literary talk about her new novel: Something To Tell You as well as a Q+A with wine and nibbles at the gorgeous Jack’s café next door followed by a signing in the bookshop.

There will be two further children's events on Wednesday, July 31 with author Tracey Corderoy's talk and book signing at 11.30 and author of The Page Series and Co, Anna James who will be hosting

an interactive fantasy event at 2.30.

Nicola Skinner will be reading and signing her debut novel Bloom on Thursday, August 1 at 11.30 before will read his latest picture book The Sea Saw at 2.30.

Nicola's aimed at 9-14 year-olds and Tom's aimed at 4-6 year-olds.

Three events will feature on Friday, August 2 Fleur Hitchcock, Ellen Renner while Yuval Zommer will round off the week talking about his newest non-fiction title The Big Book of Birds followed by an illustration workshop, aimed at 4-14 year-olds.

All daytime activities and author events will be held at Octavia’s Bookshop.

Entry fee of £3 per person - all tickets available from the bookshop.

Mondays event is one ticket for the whole day - £5 per person.

Tuesday's evening event for grown-ups is £8.
