South Gloucestershire Councillor and Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Thornbury and Yate Claire Young has paid tribute to outgoing party leader Sir Vince Cable.

Sir Cable had taken over as leader of the party in 2017 after a poor result for the party in the snap election.

He announced earlier this year that he would step down as leader to allow the 'next generation' to take the party onwards.

It was expected that he would step down whe Brexit was resolved, but he told media that it was a 'protracted process' and 'may never happen'.

Sir Cable is to be replaced by Jo Swinson.

A number of people paid tribute to the Cable's reign, one of them was Cllr Claire Young who posted on Twitter: "Today Vince Cable is ending his stint as Lib Dem leader on a high note, with massive gains in the local elections, our best ever results in the EU elections and neck and neck with the other parties in the polls. Thank you Vince."
