ALFIE the donkey is back on Minchinhampton Common.

The much-loved donkey has been recovering after being hit by a car on July 12.

Following the collision, Alfie's owner moved the animal off the common to a nearby field while he convalesced.

A question mark hung over whether Alfie would return to the common or not.

But now he's back, and he's sporting some new reflective head gear which will make him more visible to drivers.

A 29-year-old woman has since been charged with drink driving after allegedly hitting Alfie.

The case will be heard at at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday July 31.

The SNJ understands that the woman has since offered to foot Alfie's vet bills.

Cows, and Alfie, are released onto the common every summer but increased traffic across the unfenced commons has caused regular incidents in recent years.
