The Castle School in Thornbury will soon have a new sensory garden thanks to money raised after arson attacks at the end of last year.
Both the main school and the sixth form site were targeted by arsonists in December 2018, prompting parent Cheryl Jenkinson to set up a fundraising page.
The £2,500 has been used to create the new garden which will benefit children with SEND (special educational needs and disability).
Castle School Friends and Cheryl have been working with Viv Cotterill, head of learning support at The Castle School to develop the idea.
Access to the garden will be limited to those for whom it is particularly intended, and will be supervised.
Plans for the garden include: a shelter where children can sit, raised borders for students to grow fragrant plants, bird feeders, and sensory equipment, such as items suspended from branches.
The group will be looking for volunteers to help with landscaping the sensory garden when the time comes. Contact enquiries@castleschoolfriends if you can help.
