FIFTY new houses could be built on green fields in Malmesbury if a planning application is approved by the council.

White Lion Land LLP and Stonewater Housing Association wants to build the housing estate on a one hectare site off Park Road.

All 50 of the proposed homes have been designated as affordable housing, with 28 two-bed, 20 three-bed and two four-bed houses.

The outline planning application submitted to Wiltshire Council includes 112 on site car parking spaces and 60 cycle bays.

Access to the site will come from Park Road, and the plans include a new footpath.

A ‘green buffer’ with the nearby White Lion Estate, with public space, is also part of the plans.

In the application, the developers say: “Concerns have been raised by some residents about flooding on Park Road, however a flood risk assessment by Mayer Brown suggests that the development would be at a low risk of flooding.

The report said: “The conclusion of this flood risk assessment is that the development at White Lion Park, Malmesbury can be safely carried out without increasing the risk of flooding to downstream/surrounding properties.”

It is understood that the proposed land was not allocated for housing in the Malmesbury Neighbourhood Plan, the blueprint for development in the area, which would mean that Wiltshire Council would be going against the document if they were to approve the application.

Malmesbury Town Council’s planning and environmental committee will be reviewing the application at their next meeting on Tuesday, and then put forward comments and a recommendation on whether or not to approve the proposal.

Wiltshire Council’s planning committee will make the final decision on the application.

All residents are welcome at the town council meeting on Tuesday.

Residents have until July 25 to submit their comments to Wiltshire Council regarding the planning application.

To submit your comment, email developmentmanagement@wiltshire.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can comment via the planning portal on the wiltshire.gov.uk website.

A target date for a decision on the application has been set for Tuesday, September 17.
