A charity and community market in Cirencester has been cancelled.

Cirencester Town Council say they were forced to cancel the market as they had received a low number of applicants.

A spokesman for the council said: "It is with deep regret that due to low numbers of applications received for our charity and community market a decision has been made to cancel the event.

"As a council and community team we would have loved to champion and support our local community groups, charities and support groups however, with such few applications we feel the benefits would not reflect the effort, time and funds of those that could attend.

"A total of 92 organisations were invited but only a handful of those were able to attend.

"We fully understand that many of the invited organisations are very reliant on volunteers and we appreciate that participating in such an event has proved particularly difficult for many organisations however, we would like to work with them in the future and we hope that we will either be able to re-arrange the market or arrange something that would be beneficial to all."
