Cirencester’s Barn Theatre is launching an exciting initiative in the search to find a talented local performer to get the chance to appear in their Built by Barn production of Daddy Long Legs.

The Barn is known in the theatre industry for giving emerging new talent an opportunity with many actors, directors, and various creative’s getting their first break at the Barn before going on to greater things.

One of the Barn Academies protégés, Harry Apps, is currently starring as Marius in the UK tour of Le Misérables.

With that in mind, local auditions will be held in Cirencester on Thursday, July 4.

Successful candidates will be recalled on July 9 and 10 July for final auditions in London.

Daddy Long Legs is the first of the Barn’s musical productions.

The musical is based on the classic novel by Jean Webster that inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire.

This adaptation with book by John Caird and music and lyrics by Paul Gordon is set in turn-of-the-century New England which tells the story of orphan Jerusha Abbott and her mysterious benefactor who agrees to send her to college, who she dubs “Daddy Long Legs” after seeing his elongated shadow.

The tale of two lives colliding unfolds through Jerusha’s letters addressing her Daddy Long Legs that work as an insight into her innermost thoughts of the world.

Daddy Long Legs is an uplifting piece of theatre that questions identity while highlighting the importance of education, imagination and love.

Rehearsal for the musical will take place from September 2, to October 1, with the performance taking place from October 2, to November 2.

If successful, the role will be fully paid in accordance with Built by Barn productions standard terms and conditions.
