Care workers took on a 20 mile sponsored walk to raise money for their local primary school.

Workers at The Lakes Care Centre in South Cerney, operated by the Orders of St John Care Trust, took on the task to raise £250 for Ann Edwards School, and for the resident’s amenities funds.

The school is raising money for a fully-stocked school library bus for the children to be able to use.

Ann Edwards school is hoping to have the library bus up and running later this year.

The walk began at The Lakes Care Centre and along the canal path before walking to Cerney Wick, then over to Ashton Keynes, back into South Cerney village before returning to The Lakes Care Centre at the half way point to have a cup of tea with the residents before setting out in the rain again to do the final 10 miles.

Some residents joined in with part of the route and the children from the school met the team for tea at Fenton’s coffee shop in South Cerney village.

More volunteers joined the team on route and completed some of the walk with them.

Mandi Short, home manager, said: “We had a fantastic day helping to raise money for the Ann Edwards school.

"It is nice to give something back to the local community, as the community is so supportive of us.

"We look forward to helping local organisations in the future."
