The A417 has re-opened following a crash.

The road was closed northbound due to an accident from the Cowley Turn off (Cowley / Brimpsfield Roundabout) to the A436 (Air Balloon Roundabout).

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

Two cars are involved in the incident. 

Following the accident, there w a diesasel spill that made it unsafe for drivers. 

Surrounding roads were congested as traffic diverted that affected traffic between Cirencester and Cheltenham.

Motorists and commuters are advised to seek alternative routes. 

A spokesman for Highways England has said: "The A417 is currently closed with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the northbound carriageway. 

"In addition there is a large fuel spillage across the carriageway and damage to the central barrier. 

"Diversion route as follows: Solid square: Exit the A417 at the A429 Burforf Road interchange, and travel north easterly. At the A40 roundabout take the 1st exit and travel west, at Shipton exit onto the A436 continuing west to re-join the A417 at the Air Balloon roundabout."

The A417 northbound has now re-opened and delays have eased.
