Gloucestershire’s police force have erased years worth of misconduct outcomes displaying inappropriate behaviour by its employees after a review.

Until last week Gloucestershire Constabulary published the outcomes online of misconduct hearings which deal with allegations of gross misconduct by police officers and staff on or off duty.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

There were decisions ranging from suspensions, final warnings and dismissals as a result of gross misconduct as early as 2011 published on its website.

The constabulary replaced the published outcomes with a message stating decisions will be displayed 28 days after a misconduct hearing to be in-line with National College of Policing guidelines.

The constabulary said the decisions allows the police force to be “more transparent”.

The change follows an investigation by the Local Democracy Reporting Service that revealed police staff responsible for maintaining the constabulary’s fleet of vehicles sold their part-worn tyres online.

The police force did not publish that investigation in 2015 online due to “no one getting around to it,” deputy chief constable Jon Stratford told BBC Radio Gloucestershire in May.

A force spokesperson said: “We have taken the decision to remove all misconduct hearing outcomes from our website after 28 days after we were made aware that we were not being compliant with NPCC guidelines on the matter.

“We have reviewed our procedures for publishing both staff and officer misconduct outcomes on our website and to remain in compliance with the guidelines we will now be removing results after this timeframe.

“We feel that this decision will allow the force to be more transparent as both officers and staff will now be treated the same in terms of the results of misconduct hearings being published online”.
