A sportive hosted by Brimscombe school will be returning for it's second year in June.

Named the ‘5 Valleys Sportive’, the 80-mile sportive starts and finishes at the school and takes participants on a circular route through many local villages including: Frampton Mansell, Cowley, Frocester Hill, Ozleworth. Hawksebury Upton and Rodmarton and will take place on Saturday, June 22.

Participants have one of three options to choose from.

A 80 mile, test of endurance that takes in many of the surrounding areas toughest climbs and picturesque views.

Alternatively, a shorter, 40-mile route and, finally, a 15-mile, family ride, which is largely based along the nearby canal paths.

Brimscombe School's headteacher Joe Roberts said: “The event was such a success last year, that it was completely sold out several weeks before the day. We also had an extremely long waiting list of hopeful riders,”

“This year we have increased the number of entrants per route and will be staggering the two longer distances to enable more people to participate.

“Last year the sun shone and riders of all ages took part in the event, including myself.

“As a fan of pedal power it was such a lovely sight to see so many people coming together and enjoying being out in the beautiful countryside that we are fortunate to have surrounding us.”

Organised by parents at the school, with the support of British Cycling, the carefully planned route will be on public roads with marshals, water and food stations throughout.

Riders and supporters are also welcome to enjoy refreshments and live music at the school, following the ride, as it will also be hosting its annual Summer Bash.

The longer route will be challenging with a little over 2000 metres of climbing however, it has been carefully planned to take in some of the best areas of outstanding Natural Beauty this region has to offer.
