It will be full steam ahead next month as steam boats descend on Lechlade from across the country.

Steam Boat Sunday, as it is being dubbed, is organised by David Howard of the Consuta Trust as a part of a Heritage lottery fund grant.

The grant help fund major works to this historic Thames umpire launch and this event gives the public a chance to see steam boats in action on the Thames at various locations.

The Lechlade part of the trip is part of this year’s Steam Boat Association of Great Britain Thames Rally.

David Avery of The Steam Boat Association is one of the organisers and said: “Over the weekend our members will bring the magic of steam power and the sparkle of polished brass to the river with boats old and new.

“We have 12 steam boats, one electric and one vintage diesel boat attending.”

The event is open to the public and displays begin from The Riverside Inn from 11am on June 2.

Riverside manager Will Rowe added: “We are looking forward to it; there should be plenty of interest.

"It will look like the Riverside when it was warehouses and storage.

“A big thank you goes to Ian, the new owner of the Lechlade Marina who has helped pull this together.

"They are doing so much to tidy up the area and bring it back to its previous beauty.”
