A chip shop in Wotton is set to close after a dispute with the landlord.
Wotton British Takeaway could now close in October when the current lease ends.
A post on Facebook said rent was set to be increased by more than 50%.
It said: "As a family we are unable to meet the needs required. Yes we may be a busy shop but we are not made of money as we too have our personal debts.
"The rent increase is not viable for us at this moment in time.
"We do however want to stay, we have been with you for 17 years it is too our livelihood. Just as much you, we do not want this to be our last year. We have put forward painful offers that are still unrealistic."
The property on Wotton High Street is now on the market to rent for £1,917 per month, approximately £23,000 a year.
The current tenants say they have had offers of £18,000 and £20,000 rejected.
Customers revealed their disappoint with one comment saying the shop was the 'best in the area'.
