A sprawling castle estate near Tetbury which was besieged during the Civil War has gone on the market for a whopping £10m.
Beverston Castle Estate, previously home to Major Laurence and Mrs Jane Rook, is being marketed by Savills, who describe the property as 'an exceptional sporting and residential estate'.
The late Major Laurence and Jane Rook, who lived there for nearly 60 years, were both well-known members of the British eventing community - Major Rook won the first European Championship at Badminton in 1953.
At the heart of the estate sits the Grade I listed castle, built as a fortified manor house in the 13th century.
The castle, which originally had a drawbridge over a wide moat, was besieged twice during the Civil War.
Will Chanter of Savills' Cheltenham branch said: “For disciples of history, there can be few private houses which can deliver such a wealth of interest as Beverston, and the relatively modest size of the main house means that it can be enjoyed as a rather special family home.”
The price is listed as in excess of £10m.
