RANDWICK Wap returns this weekend with a celebration of community, tradition and family-fun.

The Wap is a series of events which culminates in a procession and festival.

The tradition is believed to date back to the Middle Ages.

Taking place in the village on Saturday, May 11, this year’s event will see the new Wap mayor and queen ‘cried in’ at the war memorial at 1.15pm.

A procession will then make its way to the Mayor’s Pool, then back up to the Well Leaze for cheese rolling.

Once three cheeses have been rolled, the procession will head through the village to the playing field.

Refreshments will be available on the field, in the village hall and in Randwick School.

This will be followed by arena events and a dog show, from 2.30pm.

The sharing of the queen’s jug and traditional Wap songs will take place at 4.30pm. Youngsters can enjoy an hour of dancing at the Little Skylarks disco, from 6pm.

And then there will be the sharing of the mayor’s jug at the Vine Tree pub at 8.30pm.
