Massive improvements have been made to a Malmesbury volunteer run cinema.

Movies@Malmesbury in the Town Hall opened in December 2010 under the rural cinema pilot scheme.

When this scheme threaten to close Dolby Europe Ltd in Royal Wootton Bassett came to the rescue.

Cinema co-ordinator Charles Vernon said: "Since March 2012 they have provided fabulous support to us.

"Last November they provided a replacement projector at a bargain price and earlier this year an updated cinema server was installed on long term loan.

"Last week David Edwards, one of their technical support experts, enabled the 3D capability of the equipment and delivered a number of 3D glasses.

"So with improvements made by the town council to reduce the sound of the equipment heard by the audience the cinema is now well equipped."

As well as a variety of films, residents can also enjoy a variety of music events such as Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday concert, a ballet from Sadler's Wells and the Royal Ballet and Royal Shakespeare Company's theatre productions.
