STROUD Show is set to return this summer, with some exciting new activities and some old favourites too.

Held each year in Stratford Park the show is renowned for having a special theme and 2019 will be no different.

This year’s theme will be Stroud: Green and Thriving and the committee chair, Wendy Fabbro, is hoping the community will get behind the idea.

There will be a walking procession based on the theme, and schools, Brownies and Rainbows, families and groups are invited to join in. The best costume will receive a prize from the star guest.

And, after a gap of nearly 20 years, the popular brick throwing competition is back.

"Working with Stroud Athletics Club, we are re introducing this quintessential Stroudie contest," said Wendy.

The memory of the show's much loved former president Edna Powell, who sadly passed away last summer, will be celebrated in two ways.

Edna's son, local businessman Tony Powell, will become the new show president. And the Edna Powell cup will be launched, and will be awarded the person or group who has made a great contribution to Stroud communities.

Tony will be taking over the president’s chain of office from Roger Cullimore, who has been involved with Stroud Show for more than 50 years.

Young musicians can enter the Stroud’s Got Talent battle of the bands competition.

"We are offering the winning band the fantastic prize of the opportunity to play on the mainstage at Chalfest this summer," said Wendy.

Gardeners will be able to showcase their flowers and vegetables in the horticultural show.

Livestock and animals shows will be there, with Dexter cows, Cotswold sheep, goats, alpacas, carthorses and other animals making an appearance.

Dogs will get their chance to shine in the dog show for both pedigrees and companion dogs.

Having started during Victorian times the show has been a special part of Stroud life throughout the years, and Wendy believes it is of vital importance to the community.

This year’s show is on Saturday, July 13.
