A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed for 12 months for breaching her criminal behaviour order.

Claire Beavis, 39, of Nouncells Cross, Bisley Old Road, Stroud, has been barred from several shops in the town.

She is also subject to a suspended sentence for a previous shoplifting offence, when she was caught earlier this month with a bag of stolen goods in Stroud.

Beavis was seen on April 4, at around 5pm carrying bags, Gloucester Crown Court heard on Friday. She was approached and asked what was in them.

Beavis admitted they contained items from Wilko and that she had been shoplifting.

Further enquiries revealed she had been approached on the March 8 and 10 when attempting to put items in her bag but had returned them to the shelves.

CCTV evidence from Homebase on March 18 showed her putting a number of items into her coat and leaving the store, the prosecution said.

On March 27 she was seen in Debenhams, Gloucester, with £148 worth of fragrances.

Defending Steve Young said: “She is in a cycle of drug addiction and persistent shop lifting to fund the addiction.”

Beavis was given 12 months in jail for the four breaches of her criminal behaviour order which she admitted plus six months concurrently for the shoplifting offences to which she also pleaded guilty.
