A RESTAURANT in Malmesbury has re-opened with a new name and a new menu.

La Campagna, formerly known La Piccola Italia, re-opened over the weekend with an all new look.

As part of the transformation, the Italian restaurant now boasts a bar as well as a fresh new layout.

Situated on Oxford Street, the restaurant has been taken over by La Campagna, which owns three other restaurants and bars in Upton Scudamore, Warminster, Paulton in Somerset and Stonehouse in Gloucestershire.

According to the restaurant, ‘La Campagna’ means the countryside in Italian.

A spokesman for the eatery said: “Dear Malmesbury community, we apologise for the closing period of the formerly known La Piccola Italia and any inconvenience this may have caused.

“We understand that previous owners have changed their colours and name a couple of times which has made the community anxious about its operations so we would like to let everyone know that we are now the proud new owners of this lovely historic building and thrilled to be in a town like Malmesbury.

“Although there is no sign yet above our doors because it was destroyed in transit so we are a restaurant without a name, we are waiting for the letters to be with us soon and there may still be teething issues to iron out in the next couple of weeks.

“We are pleased to share with you that La Campagna is now open and we look forward to welcoming you all.”

As part of the new look menu is pasta, pizza, risotto, meat and fish.

Wiltshire councillor for Malmesbury Gavin Grant said: "La Campagne's opening is very positive for Malmesbury.

"Now we look forward to the re-opening of both Amanda's and hopefully the Rajah."
