Two men have raised well over £1000 after they completed their bike ride to Paris from Yate.

George Covello, 23 and family friend Graham Elliott, 57, attempted the 240 mile ride over four days in late February.

The pair fundraised for the challenge, with £1,378 being raised for MIND - The Mental Health Charity.

“The ride was much harder than expected," George explained.

"Our cycle navigation app took us on all kinds of routes, one being off road full of rocks and sharp objects.

"I got two punctures in one day!

"We even once found ourselves in private territory at one point, there were signs saying 'beware of the boars'.

“The reason I decided to choose such an admirable charity to raise awareness and money for, is due to fact that suicide is currently the biggest cause of death in males between the age of 20-49.

"Between 2002 and 2012, 72% of people who died by suicide had not been in touch with their GP."

After originally setting themselves a target of £1000, the pair achieved well over that on their fundraising page.

“I’m very grateful to all those who helped with sponsorship," George said.

"We’ve smashed the target originally set and it is a great feeling."

George and Graham's fundraising page is still open and donations can be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/YateToParis.
