Police are searching for thieves who stole a trailer before crashing on the M4 and fleeing the scene.
On Sunday, an Ifor Williams trailer was stolen from farmland in the Bishopstone area before it was involved in a crash between junction 16 and 17 around 7.45pm.
The occupants of the vehicle which was towing the stolen trailer – a Nissan X trail on false plates – fled the scene.
It is believed they were picked up by another vehicle, possibly travelling in convoy.
PC Ben Cox said: “I’m appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident on the M4, or anyone who saw the vehicle being driven prior to the collision, to get in touch.
"The motorway was busy at the time of the incident, so it is likely there are witnesses to the collision and the occupants leaving the scene.”
Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190036375.
