Dauntsey's pupils have raised £8,000 for a Romanian orphanage.

Pupils from Dauntsey's have raised £8,000 by running a Circus themed charity auction.

More than 150 people attended the evening where they were entertained by live music and close-up magic tricks from one of the pupils.

The money raised will go to the Nightingales Children’s Project in Romania.

The funds will contribute to the school’s annual trip to the children’s orphanage to run a week-long play scheme.

Chris Tonkiss, sports centre manager at Dauntsey’s, who runs the trip to Romania said: “The pupils did a wonderful job securing donations for the auction and publicising the event and our thanks go to Mark McFarland, second master at Dauntsey’s, who took to the stage as auctioneer and commanded some fierce bidding with alacrity and aplomb.

“The Nightingales Children’s Project is a long-standing commitment for Dauntsey’s and we look forward to visiting the orphanage in the summer to see how our past efforts are paying off, and decide how best to spend the new funds.”
