Dear Editor
An open letter to Mr Clifton-Brown MP:
Following your recent votes in Parliament in favour of leaving the EU with no deal, I wonder if you could provide some comfort to the farming community in your largely rural constituency by detailing the Government's plans for replacing EU farming subsidies?
In the event of no deal there will be no transition period and therefore I assume that subsidy payments will cease immediately?
Presumably the plans outlined by Michael Gove in September 2018 for a subsidy system based upon environmental stewardship, due to begin in 2021 will not be ready by April 12?
UK farmers currently receive £3bn a year in subsidy payments under the Common Agricultural Policy, so I am very interested to know where the funds will come from to replace them?
Kind regards
Barney Butterell
Tetbury
