A WINDOW cleaning couple who have been happily married for fifty years say that the secret to long relationship is a shared sense of humour.

Michael King, who will celebrate his 77th birthday in August, said that he shared many interests with his wife Sandra, who is seven years his junior.

"We were introduced to each other by friends all the way back in 1968," the loving couple explained.

The couple were so taken with one another that they were engaged within six weeks, and married within six months.

In fact, prior to retiring, the couple ran a successful window cleaning business for 30 years covering the Stroud district.

Stroud News and Journal:

"We just knew that we were right for each other," Michael said.

"Over the years we've become closer and closer," Sandra added. "We just get along so well - our children laugh at us, they say that we're almost the same person."

Blessed with a son and a daughter, the couple also have two grandsons and a granddaughter as part of their happy family who often get together at the couple's home in Stonehouse.

Sandra and Michael celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on March 8, and said that they had been treated to a surprise party by over a hundred of their family and friends.

"It was amazing, we walked into Bethel Church in Stonehouse and everyone was there - they'd thrown us a surprise tea party!

"It was wonderful to see everybody, we're so grateful to everyone for their kindness."
