The M4 Prince of Wales Bridge Westbound will remain closed until Monday morning.
The carriageway was closed from around 8pm on Saturday, with roadworks being carried out through the night and remaining in place for most of Sunday.
Traffic is heavy on the approach to the M49 bridge due to the closure.
The bridge will be reopened at around 6am on Monday ready for commuters.
