A farming couple have opened up the doors to their farm for a fundraising breakfast.

Melanie and Jeremy Newman, who run Winkworth Farm in Lea hosted a Farmhouse Breakfast to more than 85 people from across Wiltshire.

The big-hearted couple hosted their sixth annual farmhouse breakfast to raise money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, a charity that supports farming people of all ages in financial hardship.

Sue and Andy from Waring’s Catering helped cook and serve the breakfasts, while Sherston Free Range Eggs, County Insurance and Malmesbury-based firm, The Tracklement Company, donated produce.

A prize draw and match-funding from Barclays of £1,000 meant the event generated £2,393 for R.A.B.I.

Laura Ractliffe, R.A.B.I regional manager, helped organise the fundraiser, alongside volunteers from the charity’s Wiltshire committee.

“This was another hugely successful event and we are grateful to everyone who contributed to a wonderful morning," Laura said.

R.A.B.I is farming’s oldest and largest charity, giving out grants of more than £2.2m in England and Wales during 2018.

In Wiltshire, grants of £69,325 were given out last year to 38 individuals and families.
