STORM Gareth is set to batter the region with force today as 60mph gales and driving rain work their way across the uk.
The storm which is currently over 1,000 miles wide, is expected to peak in some areas in the north of the country with 90mph gales.
Across the South West the wind speeds will be slightly lower, but the force of the storm has still prompted the Met office to issue a 'risk to life' weather warning in the region.
England and Wales will feel Gareth's fury from 9pm on Tuesday through to 3pm on Wednesday with strong northwesterly winds.
The Met Office has warned that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves, debris being thrown and damage to buildings such as roof tiles being blown off.
Additionally travel is expected to be affected by the extreme, unsettled, weather this week, with delays and cancellations expected on trains, roads and at airports.
