CIRENCESTER Town Council has announced that it will be supporting residents, schools, community groups and businesses who want to do their bit and get involved in the war on litter.

The council is offering to help anyone who wants to get involved in The Great British Spring Clean, Britain’s biggest ever mass action environmental campaign, organised each year by Keep Britain Tidy.

The aim of the national campaign is to get 500,000 people out litter-picking between March 22 and April 28.

As well as helping to provide litter pickers, the council can also help with the arrangements for the events and will record it on the Keep Britain Tidy website.

The council is keen to encourage sustained action to keep the town green and to celebrate the action that is already being taken by some businesses and individuals to reduce waste.

Brona Langton, project and management support officer at Cirencester Town Council explained: “Let us know what you are doing to reduce and recycle – be it ‘keep cups’ to reduce the amount of disposables, or using biodegradable or compostable products in your home or business and we will share this news.”

The council has also promised that it is going to be proactive over the next 12 months and provide training on issuing fixed penalty notices as well as piloting a new app to monitor and respond effectively to a wide range of environmental issues which are of importance to the public.

Cotswold District Council also have the district wide Great Cotswold Clean Up competition running at the same time which Cirencester groups can enter and be in with the chance of winning up to £500. To enter email cdc@cotswold.gov.uk or call 01285 623123.
