BREXIT protesters formed a human chain in Cheltenham today, to express their wish to remain in the European Union.
The pro-EU campaigners assembled on the Promenade, outside Cavendish House, at 11am for an hour-long demonstration.
This was the first event to bring together pro-EU action groups from across Gloucestershire.
The idea for the 'Chain to Remain' came from Cheltenham campaigner Sarah Daly, who visited London on February 14 and created a human chain outside the Houses of Parliament.
She is now hoping that other pro-EU groups across the country will follow suit and create chains in their communities.
“Cheltenham for Europe was delighted to host the first county-wide chain in Gloucestershire this morning," she said.
“The weather was fantastic and we had an excellent turn out, with lots of positive comments from passers-by.
“After the chain, we handed out chalk to create a giant piece of street art.
“We asked everyone to draw or write a message to their MP, or to Theresa May or any of the political leaders. ”
“In the end, we completely covered the Promenade in street art.”
The idea of #Chain2Remain is gathering support with remainers nationally.
“If it does take off nationally, it will be exciting to know that it all started in Cheltenham,” added Sarah.
