It was sad to receive the terrible news on Monday that Honda is closing its plant in Swindon.

A devastating blow for its 3,500 employees and those who will feel the ripples throughout the supply chain.

But it's not just Swindon that will be affected by the news, it will be all the towns and villages around.

It will have an impact on retailers, pubs, cafes, shops.

Many of us know of people who work at the plant, whether they are from Cirencester, Tetbury or Malmesbury. But there will be some villages and towns that will be hit hardest by the decision.

Whole families will likely be left unemployed, and it will put a strain on unemployment in the area. It will also be a blow for the next generation, whether that be a budding engineer or an admin worker.

Cirencester College have expressed their sadness at the news, as one of those who sent students on to Honda as apprentices.

Sadly, the move will have massive implications for many of us, we can only hope the closure affects as few people, retailers, and villages as possible.
